Support ban on texting while driving

On Wednesday, March 6, 2013 Statesman published an article Support ban on texting while driving. I agree with the author because texting while driving is not good for you nor is it good for other drivers. I think they should ban it because texting while driving is the same thing as driving intoxicated. I say that because when your drunk and you drive you not only you’re a danger to yourself but a danger to other drivers on the road. As texting and driving go hand in hand because when you hear your phone go on you forget that your driving a car and you quickly look down and see what does it say, as you try to reply its not easy because there’s no way you can watch the road and watch your phone at the same time. You will no matter what you will look away from the road for several second but you don’t understand in that several second you carry so much distance that anything can happen and you wont be able to make a judgment so fast and end up crashing. A study released in September 2010 by the Highway Loss Data Institute, which analyzes insurance loss statistics, compared insurance claims in four states before and after each had passed a texting-while-driving ban. The institute found a slight increase in collision claims after texting bans were passed. Why? The institute theorized that drivers were still texting but were doing so more stealthily to avoid being caught. By moving their phones low and out of sight they were taking their eyes off the road for a few seconds off the road. By passing this law they should make it to where if you’re caught texting while driving you can get fined and you have to pay! That’s the only way I think people will understand that texting while driving is not safe at all.

  1. I agree with your article, it makes sense for them to make it a law that you can't be texting while driving, because like you said it's pretty much the same thing as driving under the influence. A lot of different scenarios can happen in those two seconds someone takes their eyes off the road to look at their phone. Even then I think many people are still going to text until they get fined or until they get in wreck, but nonetheless I think it well help if they made it a law. It's kind of a no-brainer that they haven't already, considering all the wrecks and accidents texting has probably caused.
